The Yankees missed their first chance to close this series out. It’s
not as if they were home, and now have to go on the road. They are
coming home, but still, it stung.

“It’s definitely disappointing we didn’t close this out tonight,” said Johnny Damon.

The Yankees had…

a
two-run lead and loads of momentum with nine outs to go. Joe Girardi
sent A.J. Burnett out to start the seventh, which is not  a terrible
move (Ron) with five scoreless innings just behind him.

“He was throwing great,” Girardi said. “He was only at 80 pitches. He felt great. We liked what we saw, so we stuck with it.”

But Girardi probably left him in one batter too long. After the lead-off single, would have been a good time to go get him.

What is certain is that the Yankees were one out away from getting
out of the inning, but Phil Hughes made a terrible pitch to Vladimir
Guerrero. “Supposed to be up and in,” Hughes said. “Instead it was down
and over the plate.”

That was key. Guerrero has been vulnerable to the high fastball, and
the way Hughes brings it the Yankees liked the matchup. He set Guerrero
up with a great curve for strike two, and if he climbed he ladder, he
gets the punchout. But make a mistake, and Vlad can still hit it. He
muscled it through the middle to tie up the ballgame.

Time to come back home…lets see what happens.

besides there’s no place like home :)

Peace, Love & Go Yankees!
