It Took A While, But Yanks Beat Jays 6-5
Chien-Ming
Wang was pitching his best game of the season up until the 6th inning
where it all went downhill. The Yankees lost the lead, and Wang had to
come out of the game. But after tying the game up and having a solid
performance from the bullpen, the Yanks went into extra innings and won
the game 6-5, thanks to the bat of Jorge Posada.
The
Yankees jumped on Blue Jays’ ace Roy Halladay early, as in the 1st
inning, Alex Rodriguez lined an RBI single to right-center, to give the
Yanks an early 1-0 lead. Then in the 2nd after the Blue Jays took the
lead, Hideki Matsui went the distance with a long solo home run to
right, to tie the game at 2. It was his 12th of the year. With the game
still tied in the 5th, Jorge Posada lead off with a solo shot of his
own, to give the Yankees the lead. But that wasn’t the only clutch hit
we would see from Jorge today. We fast foward to the 7th now, and the
score was 5-3 Blue Jays. With Jeter on 1st, Johnny Damon crushed a
2-run blast to right, to tie the game. Then, after the score remained
tied and we headed into extra innings, Jorge Posada came up big again.
so, it was the 12th inning, and runners were on 1st and 2nd, and Jorge
lined a game-winning, walk-off RBI single, to win the game and give the
Yankees their 8th walk-off win of the year.

Wang was pitching the best game of the season today, until the 6th
inning that is. After giving up a 2-run home run to Adam Lind in the
6th, Jorge Posada noticed something was wrong with the former 19-game
winner. He then left the game a pitch later and his line ended up like
this – 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, striking out 1 and
walking 1. David Robertson gave up a run after coming in for Wang, but
then the bullpen was great for the rest of the game, allowing just 3
hits. Brett Tomko got the win.
