Cano Delivers Another Walkoff for Yanks!

The
New York Yankees are 28 games over .500 for the first time since the
end of the 2007 season, when the team finished 32 games ahead of even.

New
York is 20-6 since the All Star break (including an incredible 15-2 at
Yankee Stadium) and an amazing 56-26 in their last 82 games.

Robinson
Cano drove a ball off the wall in right-center field in the bottom of
the 11th inning, driving home Alex Rodriguez to win this one, 4-3, for
the Yankees, who put another series in the win column and closed a very
impressive 6-1 homestand.

The drive, which just missed being
Cano’s second home run of the game, proved to be the fourth walkoff hit
of the second baseman’s career.

It wasn’t an easy or pain-free win for the Yankees, who saw Derek Jeter go down early and Jorge Posada give away the lead late. Heck, even ARod’s winning run hurt. He reached base after being drilled in the elbow with an 89mph fastball.

A.J.
Burnett started this game and probably deserved better than a
no-decision. While not perfect, Burnett was plenty good enough to win
this game had he gotten just a little help from his catcher.

For
the game, Burnett goes six innings, allows a season high 10 hits, two
walks and strikes out seven. He allows three runs, all of them earned,
though the final came home on a breaking ball Posada couldn’t block.

The bullpen took over in the seventh and (surprise, surprise) pitched great.

Phil
Coke, David Robertson and Phil Hughes combined to pitch shutout ball in
the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, and then Chad Gaudin made his
Yankees debut.

Gaudin pitched the 10th and the 11th, did not
allow a run and earned the win. Gaudin allowed only a single and one
walk in his two innings, and he struck out three. He threw 25 of his 44
pitches for strikes and should be ready to start on Sunday.
